Schalke II prefers a change of coach: Fröhling goes – Fimpel takes over

In danger of relegation

The west regional league team FC Schalke 04 II, threatened with relegation, has brought forward the change of coach from Torsten Fröhling to the previous U15 coach Jakob Fimpel, which was actually planned for the end of the season. “After six games without a win, the U23s are in the middle of a fight to stay up (to the table of the Regionalliga West). That’s why we decided to give new impetus to the head coaching position,” said Knappenschmiede director Mathias Schober in a statement on Schalke’s website. “We are convinced that with the early move to Jakob Fimpel we can turn the tide and stay in the league together.”

Fröhling had looked after the young Schalke since 2018 and scored an average of 1.59 points in 129 competitive games. The 55-year-old had previously worked as a head coach at Wehen Wiesbaden, 1860 Munich and Holstein Kiel. Successor Fimpel has held various positions in the Schalke youth team since 2013. About his new task he said: “I’m convinced that together we will be able to stay up in the league. We are aware that it will be a great effort in which we have to give our best until the last minute. Accordingly, we will approach the new task as a team in a focused manner.”
