Schalke flirt acted as the new head coach

Head coach Oliver Glasner may be in danger of prematurely exiting Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt. Now a new name is traded as a possible successor. Not too long ago, he had also been discussed at FC Schalke 04.

According to “Bild” and “Sky”, the term of head coach Oliver Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt is coming to an end. Despite his contract until the summer of 2024, the 48-year-old will leave Hessen this summer at the latest. The only question is whether Eintracht and Glasner will separate before the cup final on June 3 in Berlin or only after the end of the season.

There was already a lot of speculation about the future of the Austrian given the precarious yield in the second half of the season with only two wins in 14 games. Glasner had also not wanted to sign an offer from SGE that was ready to be signed, which in turn fueled rumors about his move to the English Premier League.

Ilzer rumors about FC Schalke 04

In Matthias Jaissle from Red Bull Salzburg and Dino Toppmöller, former assistant to Julian Nagelsmann at FC Bayern, two candidates had recently made the rounds. “Sky” now named a third possible Glasner successor in Christian Ilzer.

The 45-year-old Ilzer is currently the head coach of Sturm Graz, where he came from Austria Wien in 2020. He still has a contract with the current second in the Austrian Bundesliga and newly crowned cup winner until 2025.

Christian Ilzer had already been traded to a German Bundesliga club last October. “Bild” brought the coach at FC Schalke 04 into play as Frank Kramer’s successor, but a little later the Graz coach clearly dismissed: “Rumors – no more! Full focus on Sturm Graz. Big ones are waiting in the coming days and weeks Challenges ahead of us,” it said in an Instagram story at the time.
