Consultants talk about S04 professionals
Regardless of which league you belong to, Schalke 04 have a lot of personnel decisions to make in the summer. In addition to the goalkeeper question about Martin Fraisl, for whom there are said to be several potential successors, ten other contracts are ending, including eight loan players. One of them is Darko Churlinov, who came from VfB Stuttgart before the start of the season. According to his advisor Mehmet Eser (M-Soccermanagement), it is quite possible for the 21-year-old to stay in Gelsenkirchen.
“Darko feels very comfortable at Schalke, he identifies very much with the club and the region. He would like to stay at Schalke,” Eser said “WAZ” quoted, but he added: “But we respect that he has two more years under contract with VfB Stuttgart.”
Churlinov moved from 1. FC Köln to Stuttgart in the summer of 2020 and only rarely got a chance there. In a year and a half, the offensive player played 471 minutes for the Swabians, this season it was 1,126 minutes for Schalke. Interim coach Mike Büskens recently emphasized: “We know what we have in Darko. He’s a very emotional player, sometimes – and I mean that positively – a crazy player who’s always able to make the difference. Darko is someone who lives the club, even though he’s only been there ten months.” The Royal Blues don’t have a purchase option.

Fraisl’s future at Schalke still uncertain – “Some requests at the same level”
Schalke has similarly little control over keeper Fraisl, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Unlike Churlinov, however, it is not certain whether the club wants to stay at all. The 28-year-old fluctuates in his performances and often makes simple mistakes after outstanding games. Not least because of this, the names Finn Dahmen (Mainz 05), Alexander Meyer (Jahn Regensburg) and Christian Früchtl (FC Bayern) were recently mentioned as S04 candidates.

Adviser Sascha Empacher (SPOCS Global Sports) also emphasized that neither the player nor the club wanted a hasty decision “WAZ”. “Martin has some requests at the same level, so don’t worry. He is the potential promotion goalkeeper and loves Schalke. There are signals from the club to talk to Martin after the end of the season. Schalke is a fair club, Martin is a real sportsman and it will go on one way or the other.”
