Schalke 04 signs Alexander Schwolow

Alexander Schwolow was not happy at Hertha and even lost his regular place. Now he is about to change clubs – and will probably join Schalke 04.

Alexander Schwolow is moving from Hertha BSC to FC Schalke 04. The club confirmed this on Wednesday. The keeper will be loaned to the Royal Blues for one year, according to “Sky” there is no purchase option.

Schalke was looking for a new number one this summer because promotion goalkeeper Martin Fraisl’s contract expired and was not renewed. Schwolow, who was still under contract at SC Freiburg at the time, wanted to move to Gelsenkirchen two years ago. However, the deal fell through because Schalke lacked the financial means.

Schwolow has been between the posts 55 times since then at Hertha. However, the 30-year-old didn’t really know how to impress and was even replaced as first-choice goalkeeper by Marcel Lotka at the end of last season.
