Officially
FC Schalke 04 has parted ways with coach Dimitrios Grammozis, which the “Knappen” officially announced on Sunday morning. “Dimitrios Grammozis is released with immediate effect, the same applies to his assistant Sven Piepenbrock and goalkeeping coach Wil Coort,” the club said.
Schalke lost 3:4 against Hansa Rostock on Saturday and are now six points behind a direct promotion place (to the second division table). “We have reached the phase of the season where the big decisions are made. We were no longer convinced that our target, promotion to the Bundesliga, still had a sufficiently high probability in the current constellation. We are therefore of the opinion that the team needs a new impetus in the season finale,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Schalke have only won one game in their last four games. “Since the beginning of the year, the team has lacked the necessary consistency, both in terms of the result and in particular the key performance parameters. It is precisely this consistency that teams who want to get promoted need,” said Peter Knäbel, member of the board and responsible for sport.

“We remain convinced of the quality of the squad. But in order to be successful in the fight for the top spots, we need continuous development, which we discussed but didn’t see.”
With a squad value of 32.2 million euros, S04 is only surpassed by Werder Bremen and HSV in terms of market values - in the second division table they are only in sixth place. “Dimitrios Grammozis took over FC Schalke 04 during a very difficult phase and stabilized the club in terms of sport after relegation and reconstruction in the 2nd Bundesliga. We wish him all the best for his future,” the club said. Schalke want to provide information on Monday about the “further procedure”.
