After just 13 games as coach of FC Schalke 04, Frank Kramer’s tenure with the Royal Blues recently ended. There were too few successes, the Knappen team presented themselves too disastrously in the 1: 5 in the DFB Cup against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Who will swing the scepter on the S04 sidelines in the future is open. However, a decision has now been made in Gelsenkirchen for the upcoming Bundesliga game against Hertha BSC.
“The sporting management of FC Schalke 04, in consultation with the entire board, decided that Matthias Kreutzer will look after the team as interim coach for Sunday’s away game against Hertha BSC (5:30 p.m.),” announced FC Schalke 04 on Thursday at “schalke04.de“. Kreutzer had previously led the first training session of the post-Kramer era.
Kreutzer will receive support from Mike Büskens, Beniamino Molinari and Simon Henzler.
“The coaching team led by Matthias Kreutzer will prepare the team as best as possible for the important game in Berlin in the short time available intensively examine all options that are available to us, even in the short term. That is our responsibility towards the 165,000 members and millions of fans”, the sporting management is quoted as saying on the homepage.
The 39-year-old will be in charge of a team for the first time. From 2006 to 2018, Kreutzer worked as a video analyst at Hamburger SV, and from 2016 he also acted as assistant coach for the second team at HSV. In January 2018, he also took on this role with the Rothosen pros.
Kreutzer also signed on at Schalke in mid-March 2019 as a video analyst and first-team assistant. Now he gets a parole chance.
However, a longer engagement is unlikely. It is expected that Schalke will present a new coach in the coming week.
