Scaroni: “Milan is profitable, worried about Serie A”

“We consider Ibrahimovic a resource close to us, it is up to him to tell us what he wants to do and when, within Milan or RedBird”, said the Rossoneri president Paolo Scaroni, protagonist, together with Inter CEO Beppe Marotta, of one of the panels of the “Sport Industry Talk” of the RCS Academy. The two representatives of the Milanese clubs obviously also spoke about the projects for their respective new stadiums. For Scaroni, staying in Milan “would have been the best solution, but we have now left for other paths. We have the record of the oldest and ugliest plants in Europe. Milan earns 35 million from the stadium, the Premier League teams more than 100. I blame myself, I have a great regret: I was never able to convince the municipal administration of how wonderful it was to provide Milan with the most beautiful stadium in the world in expenses of the clubs, moreover with funds from international investors”.

TV rights

Scaroni underlines: “On national TV rights, things have ended in an acceptable manner, while on international TV rights we still can’t get what we want. We gross 200 million, the Premier League 2.2 billion. Every time I worry about seeing measures to law which, instead of facilitating our industry, makes it poorer”.

growth decree

The stadium is one of the ways to follow to allow the Italian championship to reduce the gap with the best in Europe. “We were and are overcoming the gap – says Scaroni – because in recent years our clubs have been performing well in the cups. With the abolition of the growth decree, however, we are taking a colossal step backwards. Only the quality of the game can allow Serie A to convince foreign audiences to prefer it to other championships.” He concludes on the solidity of the Rossoneri’s accounts: “Every football club plays two games at the same time: that of competitiveness and that of the budget. Milan is managing to win both. We closed the balance sheet in profit, while the results were ‘ok’, not wonderful, because we have to admit that without Juve’s penalty I wouldn’t see Milan-Borussia Dortmund tonight.”
