West Ham United lost to Eintracht Frankfurt in the semifinals. Towards the end of the game, the dissatisfaction of the British became visible. Coach David Moyes saw the red card for gross unsportsmanlike conduct.
Eintracht Frankfurt has reached the Europa League final thanks to two wins against Premier League club West Ham United. Towards the end of the game, the atmosphere not only got rougher on the pitch, but also off it. The visitors’ Scotland coach David Moyes saw the red card.
It was the 78th minute of the game when the coach wanted his team to quickly get the ball back into play which was out of bounds. In Moyes’ opinion, the ball boy hadn’t thrown the ball to his player fast enough. The 59-year-old then lost control of his emotions.
As seen on TV, the coach violently swung and threw a ball at the ball boy. Moyes got the reward immediately: the red card from the Spanish referee Jesus Gil Manzano. Moyes wasn’t the only Briton sent off on Thursday night. After 19 minutes of play, West Ham player Aaron Cresswell only knew how to defend himself against Frankfurt’s Jens Petter Hauge with an emergency brake – and consequently flew off the field.
After the game, Moyes said of his action: “I apologize for that.” But: He criticized his colleagues at Eintracht. He was “very disappointed with the bank’s reaction,” Moyes said.
