Toni Kroos would like “more positive questions” from a ZDF reporter, who then backtracked publicly – wrongly.
Nils Kaben is a seasoned sports reporter with three decades of experience at a wide variety of major events. No situation that the 54-year-old could not have experienced before. And then Toni Kroos comes and angrily breaks off the interview with the unsuspecting questioner (read more about it here). Kaben admitted to “Bild” that he had never experienced a comparable situation before letting the tabloid spread the word that he did not want to provoke the ex-national player.
At first glance, the impression could arise that Kaben badly insulted Kroos on the sidelines at the Stade de France. Instead, however, it was all about the reporter’s questions after Kroos’ Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the Champions League final.
“Toni! Great! Super! Fantastic!”
The 2014 World Champion did not feel appreciated enough for the success to which he had only modestly contributed that Saturday evening. Kaben’s harmless, if somewhat awkward, follow-up on the course of the game and the distress that the Madrilenians had gotten into at times, felt Kroos as “negative questions”, as “shitty questions”, as “Really bad. Really bad. Really.”
The fact that the journalist now sees himself in the obligation to justify himself after comparatively everyday questions to Kroos, who has not previously been noticed by rhetorical knife sharpness, and rows back publicly, is actually the greater excitement. reckless. Aggravating. Awkward.
