The SC Potsdam volleyball team secured their first title in their club’s history with a win over Favorit MTV Stuttgart.

In the Supercup, coach Guillermo Naranja Hernandez’s team surprisingly defeated the German champions and cup winners 3-1 on Tuesday (25:20, 25:15, 20:25, 25:16).

In front of the Bundesliga record crowd of 6145 spectators in the sold-out Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, the Hungarian Anett Nemeth brought a high-class game to a close by converting the match point. With the win, SC Potsdam took revenge for the unfortunate defeat in the playoff final for the German championship in May.

Supported by strong defensive work with sometimes spectacular rescue operations, the Potsdam women gained self-confidence and security early on. The weak serve from Stuttgart also found no means against the purposeful attacking actions of the Potsdam diagonal attacker Nemeth.

The guests remained stable in the second set. With the intermediate scores of 10:3 and 20:13, the team secured this round unexpectedly confidently after the conversion of the set ball by the Dutch attacker Hester Jasper.

Even the loss of the third round due to decreasing pressure on the serve did not throw the Potsdam team out of rhythm. In the final section, the team dominated events almost at will.

From a total of ten match points, the third sealed the unexpected defeat for the women from Stuttgart.
