Coach Lukas Kwasniok will not sit on the bench at SC Paderborn’s season finale at his own request. Assistant coach Frank Kaspari will take care of the team against Nuremberg.
After the fuss about his short trip to Mallorca, the 41-year-old wanted to “use the time to process the events together with the family,” said the second division soccer team. On Sunday (3.30 p.m.), Paderborn welcomes 1. FC Nürnberg, who are threatened with relegation.
Kwasniok was taken into custody in Mallorca at the beginning of the week – allegedly on charges of sexual assault, as the “Mallorca-Zeitung” and the Spanish newspaper “Ultima Hora” had previously reported – and released a little later without conditions. He returned to Germany on Thursday.
The club will not comment on the reasons, it said. “Of course, everyone involved would like the events to be clarified as quickly as possible. For us, even after the exchange with Lukas Kwasniok, the presumption of innocence still applies,” said President Thomas Sagel.
SC Paderborn wants to continue working together
Despite the incidents, a separation from Kwasniok was not an issue, the club emphasized. “SC Paderborn confirms its desire to continue the successful cooperation in the contractually agreed form,” it said in a statement.
After returning to Germany, Kwasniok nevertheless asked the SC presidium to distribute his tasks in the season finale to other shoulders. “The interests of the club come first for me. In addition, I now need time and space to process the events and discuss them with my family,” he said. Assistant coach Frank Kaspari will take care of the team against Nuremberg.
