The German handball champion SC Magdeburg regained self-confidence in the meaningless last group game in the Champions League.
Coach Bennet Wiegert’s team won the preliminary round with 34:33 (19:17) against the Romanian champion Dinamo Bucharest.
The SCM had previously qualified directly for the quarter-finals as second in Group A.
The Magdeburg side thus avoid the play-off round, the team from Saxony-Anhalt is among the top eight teams in Europe for the first time since 2004.
Tim Hornke was the best scorer of Wiegert’s team with ten goals.
