SC Magdeburg follows THW Kiel into the cup final

THW Kiel is fighting against SC Magdeburg for its twelfth title in the DHB Cup.

Coach Filip Jicha’s team deservedly prevailed in the first semi-final of the Final Four in Hamburg with 28:26 (12:12) against defending champion TBV Lemgo-Lippe and thus took revenge for the surprising bankruptcy in the semi-finals last year.

The best thrower for Kiel was superstar Sander Sagosen with eight goals, and goalkeeper Niklas Landin also impressed.

In the final on Sunday (1:25 p.m.), record champion Kiel meets the sovereign Bundesliga leaders, as expected. Led by the strong Gisli Kristjansson and Omar Magnusson (5 and 6 goals), Magdeburg gave HC Erlangen no chance at 30:22 (17:13). Kiel could now complete the title dozen, Magdeburg could triumph for the third time in Hamburg.

“I’m glad we kept calm and played solidly in the end,” said Kiel’s Niclas Ekberg: “I don’t care who we play against in the final. Of course we want to win the pot.”

The Final Four for the cup will be held in Hamburg for the last time in almost 30 years this season, and the final round will be played in Cologne from next year. At the end of the difficult Corona period, a handball party with over 20,000 fans is expected on the two days.
