SC Magdeburg back on the road to success after winning the premier class, Wolff pulls Kiel’s tooth

Magdeburg back on the road to success, top game defeat for THW Kiel: The German handball heavyweights experienced different emotional worlds in the Champions League on Thursday.

While the German champion SC Magdeburg won 33:27 (17:16) against the Polish runner-up Wisla Plock, Kiel lost a high-class goal spectacle at the Polish series champion Vive Kielce with 37:40 (19:19).

A week after the bitter 22:29 defeat against the star ensemble of Paris St. Germain, the SCM consolidated third place in Group A with the third success in the fourth game.

The THW delivered a thriller with last year’s finalists, the strong national goalkeeper Andreas Wolff made life difficult for the North Germans with 16 saves.

For THW, who had their best pitcher in Eric Johansson (9 goals), it was already the second defeat in four games.

After two competitive defeats in a row, the Magdeburg team initially had problems with the Poles, but turned up the heat in the second half and in the end won confidently.

Kay Smits and Gisli Kristjansson paved the way to a home win with eight goals each.
