After Rihito Yamamoto (24), Keisuke Goto, the next Japanese player, is heading to SC Freiburg, who was active at VV St. Truiden last season. The 21-year-old center forward comes from RSC Anderlecht after a successful loan spell in which he increased his market value from 1.2 million to 10 million euros.

At the age of 18, Goto was drawn to the purple-white youth team, where he made the jump to the professionals at the beginning of 2025. The following summer we went to St. Truiden for more match practice. There, Goto shot his way into Japan’s World Cup squad alongside Yamamoto with 13 goals and eight assists. The transfer fee is even higher than for his companion.

“With Keisuke we were able to win an exciting player with interesting abilities. His daredevil style of play will be good for us,” said sports director Jochen Saier. “He likes to look for depth, has a good sense of space and also the feeling for how he has to behave in the penalty area. He will certainly need a certain amount of time for integration and further development – and he will get it. We are happy!
