Europa League, 5th matchday
Still undefeated: But Freiburg missed the jump to first place
November 27, 2025 – 8:42 p.mReading time: 2 minutes

The sports club has problems with the brash hosts in the Czech Republic, but still takes a point. However, that is not enough to lead the table.
Series extended, the round of 16 firmly in sight: SC Freiburg remained undefeated in the fifth game of the Europa League. The Bundesliga team drew 0-0 at Viktoria Pilsen on Thursday evening. Freiburg has now collected eleven points in the league phase and is thus staying at the top of the table. However, the Breisgau team missed out on making it to first place due to the draw.
The sports club showed a mixed performance against the Czech runner-up, but the point win was ultimately flattering. With the draw, Pilsen also continued its successful run in Europe. Like Freiburg, the team is still undefeated and can continue to hope for direct qualification for the round of the best 16.
Freiburg’s coach Julian Schuster rotated vigorously after the 2:6 in the Bundesliga at Bayern Munich. The 40-year-old changed his team to six positions; Max Rosenfelder, Jordy Makengo and Eren Dinkci were missing due to muscular problems. The Breisgauer presented themselves concentrated from the start, but found it difficult to create scoring chances against the deep Czechs. The shots from Christian Günter (13th) and Junior Adamu (18th) were nothing more than attempts at rapprochement.
Both teams tried to avoid mistakes, so the game hardly gained any momentum. Towards the end of the first half, Pilsen shifted gears and pushed energetically for the lead. SC keeper Noah Atubolu prevented Cheick Souaré (36′) and Prince Adu (43′), among others, from falling behind, and Rafiu Durosinmi’s goal was disallowed for offside (38′).
Freiburg came out of the locker room with their senses sharpened and now held their own better. Nevertheless, Pilsen remained the more active team overall and was closer to the lead. Amar Memic left the score 1-0 in the 61st minute. On the other side, keeper Florian Wiegele directed substitute Johan Manzambi’s dangerous shot onto the post (74′).
