SC Freiburg’s possible obligation to purchase Maximilian Philipp, who was on loan from VfL Wolfsburg, agreed in the summer has come to fruition. This is reported by the “Kicker“. The 29-year-old returned to Breisgau last August and the permanent commitment was to take place after a certain number of appearances. Despite a long injury break, according to the magazine, this has already happened after 13 games have been played, meaning Philipp is receiving a long-term contract.
The returnee first appeared on the field for Freiburg between 2013 and 2017 and played 88 games – more than for any other club in his career. 18 goals and 23 assists put him on Borussia Dortmund’s radar, and a transfer for 20 million euros followed. To date, the right foot is the sports club’s third most expensive sale. After the move, Philipp also reached his highest market value of 20 million euros – this has now fallen to 2 million euros. There have been two goals scored this season.
