Since U14 at SC
SC Freiburg has extended the contract of keeper Noah Atubolu early. As usual, the Bundesliga club did not provide any information at the time. Rumors had previously surfaced that the U21 national goalkeeper would move to RSC Anderlecht. According to media reports from Belgium, the club is trying to loan the 21-year-old, including a purchase option. It remains to be seen whether the contract extension that has now been completed will put a stop to speculation about a change in the company’s own growth or whether it will create the basis for a possible loan deal.

“Noah worked his way up to this point step by step to take the next level. Quality, willingness to perform and self-confidence are present. You also need a bit of luck now,” explained sports director Klemens Hartenbach and added: “Noah will now experience all facets of the business – like others before him. We will be there if he needs support. It is a great pleasure to be able to continue to shape this path, which began in the U14s of the Freiburg football school.”

Atubolu himself said: “I’m a Freiburg boy through and through and have experienced a lot with the club. There was always a clear plan and I’m happy that we’re pursuing it. I’m keen on more.” It has recently been said from Freiburg that the goalkeeper’s contract, which was only extended in autumn 2022, is to be renewed early in the summer on better terms in order to further bind the promising talent to the club.
In recent weeks, Atubolu has been considered in the public debate as the successor to Mark Flekken (30), who has emigrated to England, between posts. Coach Christian Streich currently has two more candidates for the goalkeeper position in returnee Florian Müller (25) and Benjamin Uphoff (29).
Atubolu extends at SC Freiburg: Loan to Anderlecht off the table?
With strong performances last season, Atubolu played a key role in the fact that SC’s second team provided the best defense in the 3rd division with 34 goals conceded and ended the season in second place, just one point behind champions SV Elversberg. Its market value was increased by 1.5 million to 3.5 million euros in the course of the most recent update. Among other things, the newspaperHet Laatste Nieuws“ reported shortly before extra time that Anderlecht and Atubolu had already agreed on a change, as the youngster was not promised a regular place in the Bundesliga team in Freiburg.
