SC Freiburg: Kenneth Schmidt moves into the A squad after Schlotterbeck’s departure

Third Division Update Winner

Kenneth Schmidt is promoted to the Bundesliga squad at SC Freiburg for the second half of the season. After the magazine “table football“ had reported about it, the Breisgauer confirmed on Thursday that the central defender had signed a professional contract. The German U20 international could take over from Keven Schlotterbeck, who was loaned out to Bochum until the end of the season. In the current season, the 20-year-old has played 14 third-division games for the sports club’s second team.

In the last update, Schmidt was one of the biggest winners in the 3rd division and was able to increase his market value by 250,000 euros to 750,000 euros. Together with Andi Hoti, he is largely responsible for the fact that the SC second team has a strong season and has one of the best defenses in the league. The fifth-placed team has conceded 19 goals after 17 games, which is only beaten by three teams in the league.

“Kenneth is a Freiburg boy who has continuously developed over the past few months and really deserves this opportunity,” said Freiburg’s sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “Kenneth is characterized by a very good game with the ball. With his good left foot, he is very versatile and can play both inside and outside. We give him all the time to work his way up to the top level. The situation with training at the highest level and possibly match practice in the 3rd division is ideal for him and us.”
