SC Freiburg wants to increase the environmental awareness of its fans and has therefore come up with something very special. There are now talking rubbish bins around the Europa-Park stadium.
Bundesliga club SC Freiburg has been playing its games in the Europa-Park stadium since autumn last year. The almost 35,000 spectator arena replaced the old Black Forest stadium of the Breisgauer.
Together with its sponsor badenova, the Bundesliga club has now come up with a special campaign to increase the environmental awareness of its spectators. The club has set up seven talking rubbish bins around the new arena.
Promotion lasts at least until the end of the 2022/2023 season
When the garbage is thrown away, the voice of Freiburg stadium announcer Claus Köhn sounds. “Big hit! Well done!”, “Protect the environment, dispose of your rubbish properly, don’t just throw all rubbish into the landscape” or “Grazie garbage!” and “Hey, throw in your two cents!” it sounds then, for example, from the garbage can. According to a statement from the association, the aim is to draw attention to more environmental awareness “not in a lecture, but with a slight wink”.
Hanno Franke, Head of Marketing and Social Commitment at SC Freiburg, speaks of a “sympathetic, funny and at the same time very useful way of drawing attention to our common concern for sustainability and environmental protection.”
The trash cans, which are powered by integrated solar modules for the voice messages, should remain in place for at least the current and the coming season. After that, the club and sponsor will decide whether “the campaign will be extended.”
