Defensive player Kim Fellhauer from Bundesliga soccer club SC Freiburg will end her career in the summer at the age of just 26.
“For the sake of my body and my health, I had to make this difficult decision,” the former U17 European champion was quoted as saying in a club statement on Monday.
Due to serious injuries, including several torn cruciate ligaments, Fellhauer has only played 64 games for the sports club since joining in 2014. “After ten years, I can say from the bottom of my heart that Freiburg has become my second home and SC has become my second family,” said the Mannheim native, who reached the DFB Cup finals with Freiburg in 2019 and 2023. “My journey as an active player ends here.”
