SBS show A Year Of Your Life ends week one as a flop: ‘Boring!’

The very expensive SBS 6 show A Year Of Your Life has had a bad first broadcast week. John de Mol’s latest TV baby is a ratings flop. “It’s predictable and boring.”

A Year Of Your Life is by no means the success that John de Mol had hoped for. This week, an average of 210 thousand people watched the broadcasts on SBS 6. The week-end last night could count on only 163 thousand viewers, good for a market share of 5.6 percent. These are extremely sad ratings.

Bad start week

Viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp thinks that SBS 6 is very disappointed. “A Year Of Your Life is not having a good start week, except for a hopeful Tuesday score. Yesterday even a lower score than the previous program and in the commercial target group 20 to 54 years not even 6 percent.”

The entire eve of SBS 6 is a viewing drama. “Long Live De Liefde and HLF8 also do not touch the 200,000 viewers. So work to do before the eve of SBS 6.”

Predictable and boring

Het Parool is not surprised by the low viewing figures. The program proves according to the newspaper ‘how predictable and boring these kinds of programs have become since the first Big Brother’. The ‘manipulative tricks to play participants against each other’ cause disgust at the newspaper.

The main prize of A Year Of Your Life is one million euros. That was also the top prize of John’s other TV baby Million Dollar Island. “In this programme, another of Talpa’s gems, only 170,000 thousand euros were ultimately paid out, so the candidates should know better,” according to Het Parool.

Holland’s Got Talent

On to prime time: RTL 4’s Holland’s Got Talent was the big winner with more than 1.1 million viewers (23 percent). That is quite a bit more than last week, when the premiere episode scored 968 thousand viewers (21 percent).

Where NPO 1’s Flikken Rotterdam took gold last week, the roles have now been reversed. The drama series was able to count on 1.1 million viewers (22 percent) yesterday. Immediately afterwards, Frank Evenblij’s interview with Reinout Oerlemans attracted an excellent 812 thousand viewers (18 percent).
