Savings hammer at RBB 88.8 and antenna Brandenburg

Great savings from the radio market leader “Antenna Brandenburg”! Despite the 17 percent increase in listeners, a computer will soon take over the program in the evening – because the scandal broadcaster RBB has to save money.

At the end of the year, the evening program will be severely reduced, the radio broadcasters found out in an editorial conference on Wednesday. “Antenna” is currently broadcasting lengthy interviews or reports from Brandenburg five evenings a week. From January they only come on Tuesdays and Thursdays. And from the tape.

The program “Pop nach Ten” is currently running from 10 p.m. to midnight together with RBB 88.8 – it too is to be cancelled. Two popular presenters have to go.

From January there should be no moderator in the studio after 8 p.m. Then an “automated program” runs until 5 a.m. – from the computer. It is still unclear how the transmitter can then react to extraordinary events such as forest fires or floods…

Reason for the savings hammer: Both radio programs have to save over 500,000 euros by the end of 2024. Because after the pomp and showy orgies of ex-director Patricia Schlesinger, there is a 49 million hole in the RBB budget!

Many editors are angry. Because the new RBB director Katrin Vernau had always stated that she wanted to strengthen Brandenburg reporting. But the station bosses assure: program management, broadcasting and administrative boards know the savings plans – and have approved them.
