Saving tip! In Zoetermeer you can participate in a monthly clothing exchange

You always see your neighbors walking through Zoetermeer in a nice outfit, while you never find that gem in the store. Or you do spot that beautiful outfit, but don’t have the money for it. Recognizable? Then the Clothing Loop might be something for you. Here you exchange your clothes with other Zoetermeer residents.

In short, at a Clothing Loop you ‘get’ second-hand clothing from another Zoetermeer once every so often. That won’t cost you a penny and is therefore a great way to save! In addition, there is another big advantage of this initiative: the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, but you do not contribute to it in this way. After all, you are not buying new clothes.

Bag full of clothes

How to participate: after registering, one of the other Zoetermeer residents will visit you with a large bag full of clothes. You calmly check whether there is a nice item in between, save it and then fill the bag with your own clothes, so that the amount of clothes remains the same. Then you go to the next in the group with the bag. And so it goes on!

Founder Nichon Glerum says: “We keep about one bag per six addresses. More than six people can be in a group, but then there are also more bags circulating. Zoetermeer residents get a visit from their predecessor about once a month, so that’s quite often. Who knows, you might meet another nice fellow townsman this way!”

Sustainable shopping in Zoetermeer

If you participate in a Clothing Loop in Zoetermeer, in theory you don’t have to buy anything yourself. Participants add all kinds of clothing to the bag: from trousers to T-shirts and from dresses to jackets. Do you have a request for a specific item? Nichon: “The participants have contact with each other and sometimes ask for help. For example: Carnival is just over. Some participants asked in their circle if anyone still had a nice suit. That was put in the bag and voilà! The same applies to maternity clothes, for example.”

Different sizes

Nichon says that most bags contain clothes from sizes S to L. “That is deliberate, because one brand uses different sizes than the other. And one body is also different from the other. Of course it can happen that no item in the bag fits perfectly, but we hope that doesn’t happen too often. There are separate groups for smaller and larger sizes, so that there is more suitable clothing for them in a bag.”
