Saul Gordillo | The journalist ratifies the complaint of sexual assault against Gordillo and he alludes to “consensual” acts

  • The young woman assures that she asked the former director of Catalunya Ràdio to stop, while he affirms that it was he who said to leave it

The former editor of the digital newspaper El Principal that he denounced his then boss, Saül Gordillo, former director of Catalunya Radio, for an alleged sexual assault has been ratified in his version before the Badalona judge investigating the case, while Gordillo has alluded that the relationship he had with the young woman was “consensual intimate acts”according to legal sources consulted by EL PERIÓDICO.

The statements of both have lasted about two and a half hours. The magistrate has refused to convene the window in which the private prosecution was going to request precautionary measures from Gordillo, specifically the withdrawal of the passport and appearances in court.

The complainant has explained what happened on the night of December 1 of last year. She and other colleagues from the newspaper where she worked, El Principal, went to dinner and then to a party. When they left the restaurant they went to a bar and then to the Apolo nightclub, where they stayed until the wee hours of the morning. Gordillo participated in the celebration. The young woman explained to the judge that when they left the bar she already began to feel bad and that from then on she only remembers some images or “flashes”.

In one of those images, she, already in the nightlife venue, hugs a colleague, who is the other journalist from El Principal who has also denounced Gordillo for an alleged assault that same night.

Another of those “flashes”, after the party late in the morning, is, she has recounted, when Gordillo accompanied her home in her car. There she found the former director of Catalunya Ràdio performing oral sex on her and she asked him, surprised, to stop. This event occurred in a field and, according to her, you could see the Three Xemeneies of Sant Adrià del Besòs.

The third episode that the young woman remembers is when she came home and explained to her partner what had happened. He remembers little else of that night. The sources consulted assure that she consumed alcohol. The next day, however, when the young woman went to the hospital because she still felt bad, an anxiolytic compound was detected in her blood (diazepam), drug that she did not take.

The smile

In a report by the Mossos d’Esquadra In which the images recorded in the door of the young woman when she arrived at her house are analyzed, it is indicated that the young woman entered the building “outlining a smile.” The editor has assured before the judge that this was not a smile, but that it was “a gesture of rage”, always according to legal sources. At one point in her statement, the complainant reproduced an audio sent to a friend in which it was found that she was particularly affected.

Gordillo’s version is the opposite. For him, that sexual relationship was consensual and he never took advantage of his subordinate. He has explained how the night developed and how after partying at the Apolo he took the editor to his house, because she was passing through his. Regarding what happened in the vehicle, he explained that they were “consented intimate acts” and that it was he and not she who said they should stop because he was married and she had a partner. Later, according to his account, he dropped her off at her house. The judge even asked the journalist if he remembered any act of flirting with the complainant, to which he replied that the atmosphere was playful and festive.

Gordillo’s lawyer, Carles Monguilod, He assured that there are no indications of criminal activity in the behavior of his client and that the facts have no place in the Penal Code. She recalled that the judge has rejected that any precautionary measure be applied to the journalist. “We have the privilege of having recorded images. There is no rational indication of criminal conduct,” she insisted.

He recalled that the Mossos d’Esquadra themselves collected in their report that the young woman entered her portal smiling and that the fact that traces of diazepam were found in the editor “is not significant at all”, since there is no proof to indicate who gave him that anxiolytic and that, in any case, this substance causes drowsiness and not euphoria.
