Sassuolo-Juve, slow motion: Berardi was a red

Double mistake in Sassuolo-Juve: Colombo simply draws the yellow, Fabbri confirms the decision in front of the monitor

It was primarily Szczesny’s errors, reinforced by Gatti’s surreal own goal in full injury time, that condemned Juve to defeat on the Sassuolo pitch. But the outcome of the match was also affected by the error of the referee Colombo, who in the 58th minute limited himself to warning Berardi for a foul on Bremer which would have deserved a red card. And Colombo was certainly not helped by Var Fabbri, who could have corrected him by reviewing the episode.

THE EPISODE

Almost 13′ have passed since the start of the second half, with Sassuolo leading 2-1 over Juve. Domenico Berardi enters with a straight leg on Gleison Bremer: initial yellow confirmed after check in the Var room. The Sassuolo striker hits the Brazilian hard above the ankle and below the knee, with the studs directed at the Juventus defender’s leg. Berardi realizes he is at risk and apologizes immediately, the referee Colombo draws the yellow card. Then the foul is also evaluated by VAR Fabbri, who however does not consider correcting his colleague on the pitch.
