What was missing individually: “When the performance is not of the same level, each player could have been in a position to do more. There’s no point in naming one or the other, we know that our level is better. We know that the matches are difficult, if you don’t play them in the right way you risk leaving points as happened today, even in a daring way. I often say this to the boys: when you realize that you can’t bring home all that’s at stake, it’s important not to leave the matches to the opponents as we did today.”

The problems of the match: “The approach was lacking especially in the initial phase, it wasn’t what it should have been. Then you go 1-0 down at half-time, despite the fact that in the final phase of the first half we came back and had a couple of occasions in which we were dangerous. We returned to the pitch well, we equalised, and we came close to taking the lead with Thorstvedt. The match was done, against a Genoa team that certainly has different values than what the league table says. I repeat, when the match is channeled towards a draw we committed the naivety of losing the ball on the edge of the opponent’s area. We could have attacked the cross from the right but it was too long, we missed the support and left the restart to the opponents in the third minute of added time in the second half. This is football, it’s experience and it will help us improve. We understood, but we already knew very well, that the championship is difficult, in every match we must win the points on the pitch.
The physical and psychological aspect: “It depends on a less than optimal approach, especially in the first half we lost a lot of duels. When you lose duels, you allow the others to open the field and create spaces like in the first twenty minutes. In the second half we came out well, we did better. It’s a shame, it could have been a good match for us to increase our points, which we need and will need. It’s a good lesson, we should be good at using it.”
