“It was one of the toughest matches I have ever seen. Very emotional,” Wiegman summarized the evening in Zurich. In the penalty kick series, England seemed eliminated several times, but twice Sweden missed on matchpoint.

“We could have been eliminated three or four times, if you go into peace with a 2-0 deficit, that is not good of course,” the Dutch trainer continued in conversation with the BBC.
Wiegman exchanged England an extension. Substitute Chloe Kelly (two assists) and Michelle Agyemang (maker of the 2-2) made the difference. “Although we started very badly, it got better towards the end, but we didn’t create anything, so we had to change something and we scored two goals. That was madness.”

“We missed a lot of penalties, and they missed a lot more. I have to blow off steam, I think,” Wiegman concluded on the insane evening. On Tuesday a meeting with Italy is waiting for England. In 2017, Wiegman became European champion with England, five years later she did that with England.
