Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen has to do without Iranian international Sardar Azmoun for the time being.
As the Rhinelanders announced on Monday, the attacking player suffered a “muscular injury in his left calf” on the first day of the training camp in Saalfelden, Austria. The club did not provide any information on the exact downtime.
Azmoun will leave the training camp on Tuesday and fly back to Leverkusen, it said. The 28-year-old begins rehabilitation there.
The attacker had already been thrown back by a torn muscle fiber last season. Azmoun was therefore rarely part of coach Xabi Alonso’s starting eleven and was mainly used as a joker.
