Entrepreneur and actress Sara Parikka openly shares moments from her family with children on social media. However, the filters that shape beauty ideals cause concern in the mother of three children.
A smiling Sara Parikka waves in the video. Soon the camera turns to the vegetables resting on the cutting board. Peaceful piano music plays in the background.
– Hello, I described to you the recipe for my favorite vegetable puree. It’s been my favorite since childhood, Parikka says for starters.
After a few clever steps, a soup that tickles the senses is steaming on the plate. It feels like watching Yle’s popular program Strömsö. However, it is an Instagram update of Sara Parika, who is known as an entrepreneur and actress. The account is currently followed by more than 250,000 users.

Parikka, who once came to the public from the Salatut elämät series, has built a significant career for herself as a social media influencer. The mother of three daughters shares moments in the midst of families with children. However, sometimes he has to point out to his followers that the whole truth does not lie in pretty pictures.
– Last fall, I put a question box on Instagram where you could ask me questions about families with children. In many questions, it was repeated that do my children ever fight or are there ever challenges with them, Parikka recalls to Iltalehte.
The questions surprised the Finnish entrepreneur.
– I got the feeling that I haven’t brought out that side enough. Although it doesn’t appear on social media, it should also be reminded that of course we cry, shout and there are issues related to development stages. But it’s easy for yourself too, when you follow someone else, that you easily think how that other person always has it so easy.

Deceptive filters
Parikka has been married to a well-known actor and presenter for almost ten years Mikko Parikan with. The family includes three daughters: Matilda8, Mimosa7 and soon to be 3 years old Melina.
So there is enough bustle in everyday life.
A large family has been Parika’s dream for a long time. When both parents work as entrepreneurs, going through the common calendar is of primary importance. Parikka describes her husband as being as family-oriented as she is.
– It has been important to both of us that we manage with our children also alone.

There is a lot of talk in society about families coping. Parikka also knows that her actions and actions as a parent are closely followed on social media.
– Sometimes in parenting discussions, normal things are made a little more difficult than they really are. I don’t think it matters if we are on a trip and the child stays up a little later or eats a little worse. You don’t have to squeeze that racket too much, and you shouldn’t do too much everyday, he reasons.
With her own children, she has been strict about using social media. Parikka, for example, never publishes pictures that show her daughters’ faces.
– Although I feel there are many good things in social media, I don’t think it’s a place for children. Especially when my kids are in elementary school.

The social entrepreneur has a critical attitude towards the filters of various applications, which might modify a person’s face to make it “prettier”. Parikka says that she has had discussions about it with her eldest child.
– Yes, I get such anxiety from those filters that I don’t want to use them at all and I want to be without makeup, Parikka continues.
– I want my children to have good self-esteem and I want to be able to support that growth in the best possible way.

A passion for lifestyle
The popularity of podcasts as a form of free time has grown even more in recent years. The industry has also understood the commercial value of podcasts.
Parika also has a long experience in the field. On Valentine’s Day, a new Saran Kaverikirja podcast on lifestyle will be published by her. The topics are close to the woman’s heart, as she talks with the guests about family with children and working life, but also fashion and food recipes.
How much research do you put into what kind of content you should offer your followers?
– I don’t particularly research my own followership, because I feel that I have a strong idea about it. The starting point is also that if I have a genuine interest in the topic, I believe that it will also interest my followers.

In Parika’s opinion, with the help of a podcast, one’s own personality can also come out better.
– I get to do more work with the sound, so you don’t have to worry in the same way as when writing, for example, whether the reader realizes that this is a joke.
Although it is easy to get a rosy picture of the podcast world and the work of a social media influencer, Parikka also wants to highlight the uncertainty of the industry.
– The most challenging thing in this field is also the fact that no one knows where this is all going. What will the situation be like in five years? No one knows that, he reflects.

However, he is not too worried about his own career. The children and the relationship keep their feet firmly on the ground. Returning to acting is not in mind, at least at the moment.
– I have thought that at some point I would go back to amateur theater, where I used to go.
