Santiago Caputo, Milei’s adviser

A little over two months ago, his father, Claudio Caputo, former president of the College of Notaries of the City of Buenos Aires, passed away. That day, Santiago was scheduled to meet Javier Milei, but he had to cancel and he notified him via WhatsApp.

Santiago Caputo: Hello, Javier, I won’t be able to go, because my old man has just passed away.

Javier Miley: Where are you?

caputo: I’m at home with my family.

Miley: I ‘m coming.

The relationship between Caputo and Milei began through the liberal candidate for head of the Buenos Aires government, Ramiro Marra, who has known him since his adolescence in the Belgrano neighborhood, when they both shared recess at the Manuel Belgrano school. Caputo is two years younger than Marra, but they got along well. Marra is so fond of him that he was one of the first to spread the rumor that Milei had replaced the consultant Mario Russo with Caputo, but the truth is that he is not formally working on the campaign team, but is a personal friend of the candidate. Of course, he has an advantage over other friends of Milei’s: being a political consultant, they discuss issues of public opinion and social spirit that could become an input for the campaign of the leader of La Libertad Avanza. It is a voice that the candidate listens carefully. They formed such a strong friendship that he is one of the privileged few who was invited by Milei to have dinner at her house to meet Fátima Flores, her brand new partner.

Life. At the age of 14, Caputo left the Manuel Belgrano school to continue at Esquiú, also located in Belgrano. At 16 they had to change him again, due to behavior and student performance problems: he had taken all his fourth-year subjects, so his parents decided that he should take fourth and fifth grade free, in order to finish high school on time.

From his years at Manuel Belgrano he also had a friendship with Eugenio Casielles, the Buenos Aires legislator who seeks to renew his bench and even get the vice presidency of the body. Between Marra, Casielles and Caputo they form the influential band of Belgrano in the libertarian armed forces.

During his university days, Caputo studied three years of Computer Engineering at the National Defense University, because he was attracted by the possibility of joining the AFI to manufacture technology for intelligence, but one day he met a spy who told him the routine of his work and realized that it was not as romantic as he had imagined, so he decided to change course and study Political Science at the University of Buenos Aires.

Through friends and acquaintances, he reached Jaime Durán Barba and began working in the Ecuadorian’s teams, where he met Santiago Nieto and Roberto Zapata, the two most famous partners of the PRO guru, specialists in public opinion. The pace of work was so intense and exciting that he decided to drop out four subjects after graduating to dedicate himself fully to political consulting. In recent years, he has advised candidates and companies in Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and El Salvador.

Caputo sleeps little, smokes a lot, and likes motorcycles. On December 18, 2021, he had an accident in the middle of Avenida Del Libertador with a car that he hit head-on and was thrown into the air. He fractured his left arm and his right clavicle in eight places, for which he had to spend the holidays of that year fully in a cast. They fed him in his mouth and he drank water with a straw.

Another peculiarity of Caputo is that his body is covered in Russian tattoos, which he took from a book that a friend gave him and which marked him for life (literally). The book is called “Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopaedia” and it is divided into three volumes in red, blue and purple. It is based on hundreds of photos of prisoners of the Russian mafia with the explanation of each tattoo. On his right arm, for example, he has an anti-communist proclamation tattooed in Russian and also other drawings that represent a status in that criminal organization, something that could get him in trouble if he visits Moscow.

One day a Russian man he ran into on the street saw his tattoos and asked if he knew what they meant, he said yes and let him look at some of them in detail. The Russian, named Dimitri, couldn’t believe that there was an Argentine with those marks on his skin.

Family. How tattoos are his fetish, he even made the Caputo family crest. He has little relationship with his uncles Nicolás and “Toto”. The first is the “soul brother” of Mauricio Macri and the second, his former finance minister. Santiago, his nephew, is even critical of the Cambiemos government, of which he maintains, in his dialogues with Milei, that he did not know how to fulfill the promise of change with which they had come to power.

Now he supports his friend, who believes that, if he wins, he will have a historic presidency, which should take the strongest measures in the first three months because then it will be too late. That’s what he talks to her about in private. And he is willing to help you.
