Sanoma Media Finland announces that it is involved in the joint lawsuit of more than 30 European media companies against Google.

The lawsuit concerns Google’s activities in the marketing technology underlying digital advertising.

The civil action has been filed in the Netherlands. The companies demand a total of 2.1 billion euros in damages from Google.

According to the media companies’ lawsuit, Google has exploited its dominant market position and favored its own systems. Healthy competition in the market would have lowered the costs of media companies and increased their income from advertising, Sanoma’s press release says.

According to the release, lawsuits related to the same topic are also pending in Great Britain and the United States. In 2021, the French competition authority considered Google’s similar activity to be an abuse of a dominant market position, and Google was fined 220 million euros.
