Terstroet more accurate than the KSC
Karlsruhe was stronger in this phase, but too imprecise in front of the opposing goal. The sandhouse counters were becoming increasingly rare. But just before the break, a set piece gave the visitors the lead: Chima Okoroji crossed to Terstroet, who headed in to make it 0-1 at half-time.
Karlsruhe came out of the break under pressure and had the first chance with Hofmann (46′). But KSC also played too imprecisely in the second half and gave Sandhausen the chance to counterattack dangerously. So in the 52nd minute there was a huge chance for Sandhäuser to lead 2-0: Terstroet to Erich Berko, but he didn’t hit the ball properly. Then Cebio Soukou (57th) and Erik Zenga (59th) were too imprecise in the end. In return, KSC defender Daniel Gordon headed the ball back onto the crossbar (72′).
Gondorf’s own goal decides the game
But all the rearing up didn’t help, Sandhausen remained stable. Ultimately, KSC captain Jerome Gondorf made the decision (85th). Zenga flanked the ball into the Karlsruhe penalty area. Gondorf – completely unchallenged and with all the time in the world – didn’t head the ball wide from the edge of the penalty area, but into his own goal. KSC keeper Gersbeck was completely perplexed and therefore powerless.
