SÁNCHEZ FEIJÓO DEBATE | Feijóo accuses Sánchez of “governing” with the “political arm” of ETA

The section on the pacts and governance He did not escape the harsh tone of the rest of the debate. Feijóo arrived at eleven o’clock at night having already made the proposal that he has been raising for months: that both agree to let the most voted list on 23J. The PSOE candidate refuses to accept the idea because, Sánchez insisted, Feijóo himself has not complied with that rule these days in Extremadura, where he has accepted that his candidate, María Guardiola (PP), can become president of the Board despite that the most voted was Guillermo Fernández Vara (PSOE). To achieve this, Guardiola has reached an agreement with Vox.

That pact with the ultra-right and the one that the PP has also reached in the Valencian Community and in hundreds of town halls throughout Spain was the main criticism launched by the PSOE leader of his opponent. According to the polls, Feijóo is only assured of his investiture if he has the support of Vox.

But, according to Feijóo, the head of the Executive is not the one to give “lessons” on pacts. The Galician accused Sánchez of “govern” with the “political arm” of ETA. The head of the popular recalled that just 26 years ago, on July 10, 1997, the terrorist group kidnapped PP councilor Miguel Ángel Blanco. “Tonight he was handcuffed and threatened with death,” Feijóo recalled. “Terrible, all of us Spaniards were with Blanco and his family,” said Sánchez, interrupting him. “I am never going to govern or agree with the political arm of those who planned, executed and applauded it. That is why you cannot give any lesson [de pactos] and I say it on behalf of the vast majority of Spanish citizens,” Feijóo finished.

Joke with the absolute majority

The socialist candidate refuted that the phrase that he “governs with Bildu” is a lie. Sánchez challenged him to tell him a single name of an Aberzale leader “supported” by the PSOE, something to which the PP leader did not respond. The President of the Government, on the other hand, did give the names of the vice presidents of Castilla y León and the Valencian Community, among others, who are from Vox and hold those positions thanks to the PP. The first, Sánchez said, is a “denier” of climate change. The second, “Francoist“.

For the conservative politician, the accusations that he is a “radical” due to the pacts with Vox can end an absolute majority like the one achieved by Juanma Moreno in Andalusia and Isabel Díaz Ayuso in Madrid. “Be careful,” he warned her.

Veiled reference to the ‘narco’

In this section of agreements also came the only veiled reference that Sánchez made to the friendly relationship that his opponent had in the 90s with Golden Martial, convicted of drug trafficking years later of those summers shared with Feijóo, who was already number two in Health in the Xunta de Galicia at that time. Justice seized the houses and yachts that Feijóo knew and enjoyed. The President of the Government launched it like this: “I am in a position to explain every last euro cent in my current account; absolute transparency. I can explain each of my trips, by land, air and sea, all of them. With whom I have gone, where have I gone… On my mobile you will never see a message to a criminal, as it did with Mr. [Mariano] Rajoy [a Luis Bárcenas]. I am not perfect, I have made mistakes, I have had a difficult mandate, an unprecedented pandemic and a war at the gates of Europe… But I am a clean politician.”
