Samuel Purola competes in a beanie despite the heat.
PASI LEISMA
A sprinter Samuel Purolan the beanie worn during the race has become a trademark.
Munich has been promised 26 degrees of heat when Purola runs in the 200 meters heat on Thursday. He’s still going to wear a beanie.
However, the 200m SE man is not sure if the accessory is allowed.
– I haven’t asked. I’ve been thinking about putting it. If someone wants to tear it, they can take it with their own hands, he laughed at the SUL event.
In Finland, Purola wears a black cap with a sponsor logo. In Munich, a more special hat is used.
– There is a Suomi beanie for these games.
Purola started wearing a beanie in training in the fall of 2020. The beanie remained on his head during the next summer’s games as well, because the runner could not get to the barbershop due to the corona pandemic.
To the semi-finals
Purola’s only goal for the 200 meter preliminaries is to qualify. He believes that the result of 20.62, which brought Kaleva gold in the WC, will also be a good start in the EC.
– If you run to those places, you are close to winning the set. The curve and the exit must be successful.
Purola has improved its record three times this season. He says that he learned a lot from running 200 meters.
– There have been many changes in technology and relaxation. It’s been learned this summer that you don’t have to run at full speed at the beginning.
The men’s 200 meters preliminaries will be run on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Finnish time.
