Quentin Tarantino said a week ago that there are no longer any real “movie stars” in Hollywood, partly because of the success of Marvel productions. The director explained that it was no longer the actors who became famous, but “Captain America is the star. Thor is the star.” It’s the franchise characters that get fame, not their performers Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth.

“It’s not really an issue for me”

Samuel L. Jackson has a completely different opinion. The 73-year-old has now duly contradicted his former director and companion: “It’s not really a question for me whether these actors are movie stars. Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther. There’s no disputing that, and he’s a movie star,” he said in an interview “Entertainment Weekly”. He continued, “It takes an actor to play these special characters and the hallmark of movie stars has always been – what, to excite? What are we actually talking about here?”

Samuel L. Jackson defends his Marvel territory

Jackson’s objections are no coincidence. After his international breakthrough with Pulp Fiction, the actor not only continued to appear in Tarantino’s films, but also became one of the most important mimes for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has starred in several films as SHIELD leader Nick Fury since 2008. Most recently, he was awarded the honorary Oscar for his life’s work.

Meanwhile, Tarantino can’t wait for Iron Man, Captain America and Spider-Man to disappear from the big screen. He recently said, referring to the dying out of Hollywood musicals in the 1960s, that he “can’t wait until you can say the same about superhero films”.
