In the case heard at the 11th Criminal Court of Barcelona, Eto’o pleaded guilty to charges of evading taxes on four separate crimes between 2006 and 2009.
Eto’o, who was sentenced to 22 months in prison and a fine of 1.8 million euros by the court, will pay a total of 3.8 million euros to the Ministry of Finance to avoid going to prison.
The former football player, who also played in Antalyaspor between 2015-2018, said, “I will make the payment, but I only did what my father told me.” he defended himself.
In Spain, the prosecutor’s office initially requested a 10-year prison sentence for Eto’o, but it was reduced to 22 months after the football player paid his tax debt of about 2 million euros.
