Korean tech giant Samsung has banned its employees from using generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT and Google Bard. The company discovered that its employees had shared sensitive programming code with the artificial intelligence, which raised concerns about how the information could end up in the wrong hands.

– The use of creative artificial intelligence involves risk, Samsung told its employees.

The company is concerned about how the information fed to the artificial intelligence is stored. The information ends up on external servers from the company, which makes it difficult to delete or recover the shared information.

According to a survey commissioned by the company, 65 percent of their employees feel that the use of artificial intelligence tools poses a security risk.

Programmers often use artificial intelligence to support their work, which speeds up writing code. However, generative artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT learns from the information it receives and can share the information shared there.

Own artificial intelligence as a solution

However, Samsung is also aware of the benefits of using artificial intelligence. The company is in the process of developing its own artificial intelligence tool intended for internal use, which could be used to improve work performance.

– Our headquarters is looking at safe ways to get artificial intelligence to support our employees. In the meantime, we are temporarily banning the use of artificial intelligence tools, the announcement sent to employees says.

According to the release, breaking the ban can lead to termination of employment at worst.

With its own artificial intelligence, Samsung would be able to keep sensitive data on its own servers. The artificial intelligence ban only applies to Samsung employees. Consumers still get to use AI on their devices however they want.

Reported about it Bloomberg.
