Sampdoria Genoa bring in Dejan Stanković as Giampaolo’s successor for coaching posts

Bottom of the table in Serie A

Sampdoria Genoa has presented a successor to Marco Giampaolo as a coach. As the bottom of the Italian Serie A announced on Thursday, Dejan Stanković will be on the sidelines from now on. The 44-year-old signed until June 30, 2023 with an option for a further year. For the ex-professional, who was on the ball for Lazio Rome and Inter Milan when he was active, this is his second post as head coach. He scored an average of 2.51 points in 130 games with the Serbs and won three championships and two cups with them.

Previously, Claudio Ranieri is said to have rejected renewed engagement in Genoa and the idea of bringing Roberto D’Aversa back was also rejected. So the choice fell on Stanković, who is the third Serbian coach after Vujadin Boskov and Siniša Mihajlović in Sampdoria’s club history. Stanković’s predecessor Giampaolo only took over the club in January and averaged 0.84 points in 25 games. In the current season, Sampdoria is still waiting for the first win of the season.
