Sammer on Haaland rumors: “I passed out”

The speculation as to where BVB superstar Erling Haaland will play from next summer is continuing. Recently, Manchester City from England and Real Madrid from Spain emerged as the hottest favorites to sign the goalscorer. Borussia Dortmund’s advisor Matthias Sammer commented on the personnel on Tuesday evening.

First of all, in his role as an expert on “Amazon Prime”, the 54-year-old emphasized that he was not privy to the latest talks about the status of negotiations with Erling Haaland.

“I didn’t hear anything today, yesterday or the day before yesterday,” emphasized Sammer, who is consulted at Borussia Dortmund as an external advisor on the club’s major decisions by those responsible for sport.

Sammer nevertheless confirmed that the Premier League leaders and reigning English champions are one of the top contenders for a Haaland commitment, for which at least 75 million euros will probably be due next summer. “I know that City is behind,” said Sammer, who once coached BVB to the German champions 20 years ago.

Sammer on city rumors: “It’s possible!”

Asked for his assessment of how realistic a move from Haaland to the Cityzens could be, Sammer said on the “Amazon Prime” microphone with a humorous exaggeration: “I got whiplash from the numbers and passed out. My wife has me back straightened up. Accordingly: It is possible!”

When asked what the actual numbers would be, Sammer simply replied: “Numbers? I can’t count that far.”

Interesting: TV expert Sammer, who knows the city team manager Pep Guardiola very well from his time as sports director at FC Bayern (2012 to 2016), made no secret of the fact that he found the Pep Guardiola/Erling Haaland combination to be extremely exciting: “You both will benefit from each other, because Pep naturally has a certain idea. […] Interesting constellation.”

It is widely believed that the new absorbing club will have to pay a huge signing fee and an exorbitant salary to get Erling Haaland as the new centre-forward. Real Madrid are said not to have given up in the courtship of the 21-year-old Norwegian.
