Sami Jauhojärvi made a comeback in Aavasaksa

The basic condition of the Olympic champion is still pure iron, even though it has been five years since the end of his racing career.

Sami Jauhojärvi made a comeback this weekend.

In 2017, the Olympic champion, who ended his racing career, took part in the roller skiing competition in Eastern Germany.

– The last time the number tag was on the chest was in the roller ski races in the summer of 2016, Musti tells Iltalehte.

There was no need to be ashamed of the performance.

– I got to the top of the hill. In the prologue I won Johanna MatintaloJauhojärvi says.

Are you satisfied with the result?

– Considering the amount of practice, yes, Jauhojärvi laughs in response.

Jauhojärvi, 41, says that the prolonged house renovation has taken away attention from training.

– On Midsummer Thursday, I drew a few bets at my name camp. And right after last week’s Thursday, I went for a run, Jauhojärvi laughs at his two-week training break.

Iron basic condition

Jauhojärvi was still in excellent condition.

– I was a bit surprised by it myself. I was less than two minutes behind Lauri Lepistö’s prologue time. However, the course was pure uphill for the entire 1.8 kilometer distance. Amazingly, the old fitness foundation still wears well.

The hard training of the competition years still carries.

– The heart has been brought to a certain size in time. It’s like an engine. There is enough volume, but a little fine-tuning should be done to be able to tighten, Jauhojärvi describes.

There is no need for tuning, at least when it comes to competitive sports. Jauhojärvi is not going to put on skis, traditional or roller-type, again for a while.

– Maybe in Aavasaksa again in a year. Or maybe my next race will be Jukola’s relay next summer. We have a good team and it’s always nice to go to a brilliantly organized event, Jauhojärvi praises.

The expert continues

Ski lovers will be able to enjoy Musti’s expert comments in the upcoming cross-country skiing season as well.

– The coming winter is mentioned in the contract papers. The two-year contract still has another left, says Jauhojärvi.

Last season, Jauhojärvi moved from Yleisradio to NENT Group-owned Viaplay’s cross-country skiing broadcasts.

– Next year we also have the rights to the World Cup in Switzerland. So we will be more vocal, Jauhojärvi promises.

Jussi Eskola and Sami Jauhojärvi talked about their mutual work last year.
