For years, Swiss alpine skiing star Noémie Kolly had to struggle with aching back problems. Only a heavy fall initiated the end of the torment.
After a training crash in early November, Kolly received the horrific diagnosis of a herniated disc. “After the examination, I was happy that nothing was broken or torn. My back didn’t bother me, but two weeks later it blocked completely. I could hardly move, it was brutal,” the 24-year-old recalled in an interview with the newspaper”View” return.
In the end, Kolly was “lucky in disguise”. The ski racer emphasized: “My season could have been over after such a crash. And now my back feels better than it has in years.”
A disc operation helped Kolly. “When the doctor said surgery was the only promising solution, it was a shock,” she admitted, adding, “I was sad but agreed and they removed a disc from my back.”
The OP later described Kolly as “a salvation”. “I only have three small scars on my back, I’m doing very well,” said the 24-year-old.
Noémie Kolly is planning her comeback in St. Anton in mid-January
Kolly made her World Cup debut in January 2019 in the downhill from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and immediately scored her first World Cup points with 29th place.
In August 2019, Kolly tore his cruciate ligament and missed the entire winter of 2019/2020. She achieved her best World Cup result to date in January 2021 in Crans-Montana with twelfth place in the Super G.
After another setback, Kolly is aiming for her comeback for the speed races in St. Anton, Austria, in mid-January. “First I’ll train for another week in Magglingen, then I’ll start again with free skiing,” said Kolly.
