Salvador Galindo Uribarri it is a Mexican physicist graduated from the University of Oxford, in England. Uribarri is in an exclusive, new category of academic authors: those who found out through the NEWS that Javier Milei, the Argentine revelation candidate, plagiarized pages of his work. And even he has already filed a complaint against the liberal. “At first the plagiarism caused us hilaritybut then surprise (…)”, said Uribarri, from Mexico. And it is just one of the cases revealed by the magazine NOTICIAS.
In 2013 Uribarri published -along with two other researchers: Alberto Rodríguez and Jorge Cervantes- “The mathematics of epidemics: case of Mexico 2009 and others”. the text came out in the journal “Ciencia ergo sum”, which depends on the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico. And there he presented a mathematical model to study different epidemic outbreaks throughout history. That work was very successful in the academic world. It is seen that even Milei read it.
Uribarri, one of the at least six authors plagiarized by Milei, spoke with NOTICIAS:
News: What was your reaction when you realized the plagiarism?
Salvador Uribarri: When I found out about the plagiarism, I notified the magazine’s editor, Dr. Eduardo Loría, and he told me to file a complaint with the University’s attorney general. At first the plagiarism caused us hilarity but then surprise: the surprising thing is that he did not even make an attempt to paraphrase the text. To tell you the truth, we’re not too worried about plagiarism per se, but we are that people like Milei, who already have a history of plagiarism, get to occupy positions of popular representation.
News: You reported him to Milei in Mexico for plagiarism. Is there any news so far about the complaint filed?
Uribarri: No. Justice is very slow. The problem is that no one has gone beyond a complaint. The idea is to go to the last consequences. I was careful to send a copy of my complaint to the Comptroller of the University for their information. The comptroller is a body that does not depend on the university, but on Congress. Its mission is to monitor compliance with procedures involving money or the budget, and it can carry out audits and complaints against university officials.
The complaint was filed with the UAEMex since they are the copyright holders. They are the ones who are going to file the legal complaint with the National Copyright Institute. They will promote some sanction through the formal presentation of the respective written complaint. On the other hand, I had a long conversation with the editor of the magazine “Ciencia Ergo sum” (ndR: where Uribarri presented the article plagiarized by Milei) and he told me that the magazine is a member of a world association dedicated to pointing out plagiarism. When a magazine detects plagiarism, the association is in charge of denouncing the plagiarist before his employer. What I am going to try is to file the judicial process in Mexico. That would be a stain on his resume.
News: Beyond the specific case of the complaint, how do you see the phenomenon Milei?
Uribarri: My brother told me that he is first in the polls. My brother works in the USA, and he is following Milei. He seems dangerous to her. Sounds like a kind of Donald Trump to me. His aggressive and rude language is another “plus”. And among all the barbarities that he says out there, he brings out truths that establishment politicians do not dare to mention, much less modify. For example, a very large apparatus of bureaucrats. Many people identify with him. Milei represents a “hope”. These people must be exhibited. Neither Argentina nor any country deserve impostors who deceive voters. The problem is that the Argentine voter does not have in his vision where to vote between the devil and the devil. If Milei were subject to a sanction for selling a book with ideas that are not his, what trust would he have in a bilateral relationship if he became President?
