Sales for the 2022/2023 financial year continue the record year

With sales of 3.5 billion euros, Intersport Germany was able to build on the previous record year in the 2022/23 financial year – but the retail association does not want to rest on its laurels. The focus on quality and profitability should now drive growth, according to the stated goal of Alexander von Preen, CEO of Intersport Deutschland eG and his management team.

The company’s strategy and the support of the retailers in the association are bearing fruit, says CFO Thomas Storck – a statement that is supported by the sales figures published during the presentation. The turnover of 3.5 billion euros, distributed across all retailers affiliated to the association and a total of over 1,400 stores, represents growth of 5.7 percent compared to the previous year. As a result, revenue increased by 21 percent compared to the period before the pandemic – the 2018/19 financial year. In addition to the direction taken by the group, the strong social trend towards running, the outdoor world and training as well as the rebound in retail business after the pandemic are also reasons for the group’s continued growth.

Growth in trade is being driven forward

Intersport is also confident and ambitious with a view to the future. The association is sticking to its goal of opening a further 100 Intersport-branded stores by 2030, with nine new openings on the agenda in the coming months.

Stationary retail at Intersport grew by 6.8 percent last year and, together with online retail, grew by 7.4 percent. In a market comparison, sales of the 400 Intersport branded stores (CI dealers) increased eight percent, which is two percent above the growth of the rest of the stationary retail trade. In order to continue to strengthen growth in stationary retail, the CI retailers invested over 12 million euros in the 2022/2023 financial year.

There was also no saving for future success, says Storck. After the sale of Sport Voswinkel to the Italian retailer Cisalfa Sport SpA at the end of 2023, the group now has even stronger financial strength, added von Preen. By 2030, Intersport wants to increase its sales in Germany to around six billion euros – and thus capture a market share of a good 30 percent. The dealer association did not provide specific information about profits. However, von Preen assured the German Press Agency that Intersport had “a decent result”.
