After heavy rain on Friday, the quarter and semi-finals of the tennis tournament in Berlin fall on one day. The semi-finalists come from Greece, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Russia.
tennis player Maria Sakkari made her sixth semi-final appearance this year at the grass tournament in Berlin and hopes for her first tournament success in 2023. Greece, eighth in the world rankings, beat 7: 6 (9: 7) and 6: 1 in the quarterfinals on Saturday the Czech Republic Marketa Vondrousova.
In today’s (Saturday) semi-final, the 27-year-old meets Donna Vekic from Croatia. Vekic won her quarterfinals 6:2 and 7:6 (7:0) against the Russian outsider Jelina Avanessjan.
Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Russia’s Yekaterina Alexandrova will face off in the second semi-final. The Czech Kvitova prevailed in the quarter-finals with 6: 4 and 7: 6 (7: 3) against the French Caroline Garcia. Aleksandrova moved into the round of the top four without a match. Her compatriot Weronika Kudermetowa had to pull out of the quarter-finals due to injury.
Actually, the quarter-finals should have been played on Friday. But continuous rain prevented the entire game operation and led to the postponement to Saturday.
The $850,000 tournament at the LTTC Rot-Weiss is used to prepare for the Grand Slam event in Wimbledon. The final takes place on Sunday Steffi Grafstadium.
