In an interview with the British Autosport, the Spaniard, under contract until 2024, spoke about his situation: “Starting a season without knowing where I’ll race the following year, I’ve already experienced it in Red Bull and Renault, it’s not good. Audi in 2026? My priority is to win with Ferrari”
Carlos Sainz Jr aims for a renewal with the Ferrari by the end of this championship. In an interview with the British of Autosport the Spaniard, whose contract with the Cavallino expires at the end of the 2024 season, has made it clear that the goal is to start next season without expiring, with the agreement already renewed. He also denied that there are ongoing contacts with Audi to apply for a seat for 2026, the year in which the German team, in synergy with Sauber, will land in the top flight.

“I won’t lie – the Spaniard said in the interview – I don’t like going into my last year of my contract without really knowing where I’ll be racing next year. I have experienced that situation with both the Red Bull that with the Renault, and I know that’s not ideal as an athlete and as a driver. It’s just not the right thing. And that’s why I put this winter as a reference to try to imagine my future. My priority, and my main goal, is to win with Ferrari one day. And I think I’ve made that clear a lot. And that’s why I’m giving them my priority this winter. If not, it will also be time to shop around. But that’s my priority and what I want to define in winter.”

As for the rumors that see him linked to Audi in the future, Sainz attributes them to speculation: “I think it happens because in F1 there are weeks in which there is nothing to talk about – he said – I don’t know if it’s clickbait or perhaps of lesser-known journalists trying to bring a story to gain notoriety or to be able to say ‘I was the first to say that Carlos will go to Audi in 2026’. Doesn’t mean I’ll go or not, it’s impossible to say. But I know for sure that right now I’m not talking to anyone other than Ferrari.”

And speaking of Ferrari, Sainz thinks that the team has room for improvement this season: “I think the team is in good condition – he said – we are still going through some internal changes, as you have seen since Fred (Vasseur; ed). There have been some changes here and there, we are rearranging. But the way the factory works in conjunction with the racing team is well advanced. That’s why I don’t think there is any lack of understanding in the team. This doesn’t worry me. We are focusing on understanding the speed issues in the race and once you understand this, everything will be easier.”
