The Ferraris opened the grid but Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have not been able to cope with the ‘storm’ of Max Verstappen and Red Bull, nor with an increasingly competitive Lewis Hamilton with Mercedes. The Monegasque has had the podium (3rd) as a reward, but the Spaniard has not been able to go beyond fourth place in a race that he has described as “boring” for his interests.
“Looking at the pace that Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton had, honestly, it was a matter of time before they finished ahead. They were much faster than us in terms of race speed,” explained Carlos Sainz.
“The two starts have been very chaotic, with contacts, with many things that happened… We have managed to save them both. And then, nothing, the race was quite boring on my part. I couldn’t push the entire race with temperatures, I had to go up on the straights. I think that third and fourth is the most I could do today Ferrari and we have brought it home, good points for the championship already for Brazil,” Sainz assured at the DAZN microphone.
Although they did not have as many degradation problems as expected on the Mexican track, Sainz suffered with the medium compound: “For me the second part of the race was clearly better than the first, in terms of pace.. In the first part I had a very strange middle tire, which already had some graining from the first lap and I suffered a lot with the front tire. Something that has to be analyzed and seen, because it has been really strange. And then, with the hard tire, as soon as I put it on I felt better and I had a good pace,” concluded Carlos, who equals Fernando Alonso’s 183 points in the World Championship. and he is now fourth ahead of the Asturian.
