The Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV) has once again won the German sailing club championship.
Hamburg won the title for the sixth time in the tenth Bundesliga season after 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2020. On Lake Constance, fifth place was enough for the club from the Alster to triumph on the last league weekend.
“We are overjoyed that we now have the sixth star on our chest and have become champions again,” said NRV helmsman Tobi Schadewaldt.
The Überlingen Sailing and Motorboat Club came second, ahead of the Seglerhaus am Wannsee club.
The October final turned into a battle of nerves with little to no wind. Less for the leaders of the NRV, who could hardly be endangered on the way to the title after a strong season performance, but for the relegation candidates.
The clubs in 15th to 18th place in the 2nd German Sailing League have to say goodbye: the Bavarian Yacht Club, the Blankeneser Segel-Club, the Joersfelder Segel-Club and the Itzehoe Sailing Association.
The Konstanz Yacht Club, which organized the last league summit together with the Württemberg Yacht Club, had reason to celebrate in the second division final, which was decided in parallel in Friedrichshafen. As winners of the second league season next year, Konstanz will be sailing first class. Other climbers are the Akademische SegelVerein Warnemünde, the Regatta Segler Neuruppin and the Chiemsee Yacht Club.
“The appeal of sailing in the league hasn’t broken in the tenth year of the league. This year, the competition between north and south was especially dynamic,” summarized league organizer Oliver Schwall.
