Sagrantino Wine Bar – Perfect evening

By Stephen Peter

A few days ago I invited my mum for a double treat. First feasting, then culture. I had bought two tickets for the Komische Oper, before that I went to the Italian.

The Sagrantino Wine Bar is only a three-minute walk from the Temple of the Muses. It’s actually not a particularly large restaurant, but it can accommodate a surprising number of people. Luckily I had made a reservation, so we got what might be the best table for two – in an alcove, right by the window.

The prices are, well, not without. Or the situation directly in Mitte and adapted to inflation. The caponata is a fairly cheap starter elsewhere, here it costs 15.90 euros.

What’s there for it: deep-fried aubergines with tomatoes, capers, pine nuts, walnuts and melted goat’s cheese. The tagliolini al tartufo (24.90 euros), tagliatelle with truffles and truffle butter, are good. The dessert, however, impresses me the most – the tiramisu (7.90 euros) is a wonderfully creamy sin.

A full stomach may not like to study – but watching is. “A Cage Full of Fools” at the Komische Oper is a wonderful production. So colourful, so optimistic, so captivating. In this respect: a perfect evening!
