Safety region Drenthe speaks of ‘extremely’ busy day due to storm Poly

Storm Poly has caused a busy day at the Drenthe Safety Region. The fire brigade has had to turn out a total of 35 times so far. “That is really an extreme amount,” says spokesperson Linda van der Heide.

In Drenthe, Poly led to many fallen trees and broken branches and shrubs. The fire service responds to entrapments and other dangerous situations. In Tynaarlo, for example, a tree fell on a car with occupants.

In Drenthe, 27 of the 36 fire stations had to come into action. “If you consider that the fire brigade in Drenthe largely consists of volunteers – there are only paid firefighters in Emmen – many people have given up their work today to help,” says Van der Heide.
